T30WC: Mayhem

It’s going to be total mayhem here in two weeks (or maybe tomorrow or the next five days). As if this house is not already mad enough to be inhabited by two mutant hobbits, who are soon-to-be big brother and big sister to a newborn named JJ.

I’ve been nesting the past months: buying newborn essentials and this time buying them cheap at Goodwill or Thrift stores or at Walmart’s clearance sales. I learned from my first pregnancy and delivery that it is not practical to immediately buy a stroller for a newborn; that we don’t really need a fancy changing table, and a crib is not a need in the first few weeks of life.

Instead, what I should be doing is to prepare myself and the twins on the last leg of this pregnancy. You will be reading this entry on the 25th of September but I’m writing this on the 28th of August starting at 1:25 p.m. and hoping to end by 1:55 p.m. to confirm to my self -imposed, 30-minute-only time limit to write this piece.

Earlier this morning, I’ve been reading about the importance of setting a soothing sleep routine for newborns because sleep-deprived mothers can make this home disorganized and unhappy. I don’t want that to happen. So I’ve been doing my homework trying to remember how we managed things with the twins two years ago.

This will be a whole new different situation. The twins were my only babies then. Now, I have twin toddlers and a newborn. Madness! Back in 2013, we had to stay-in nannies who assisted me from the time the twins were one-week-old until the twins turned eight months old.

This time, it will just be Jeff and yours truly. The first two weeks will be tough. I sort of pictured that out already… I am enrolled in my graduate studies via distance education and that would surely add to the chaos I have elaborated in this post. I’m imagining writing my paper while breastfeeding JJ and telling the twins to stop punching each other.

But… it’s going to be exciting. There won’t be any dull moment. There’s no other way to look at it or… I’ll be upset again and wish I was in the Philippines. Ah, no, we don’t want that.

Jeff will be as hands on as he is today and will surely be on top of the situation. I just told him I don’t remember how to give a bath to a newborn and he said: “Easily done.” Sounds positive…

My fervent prayer is that the twins can quickly adjust to the new baby and that I won’t undergo the same case of postpartum blues as two years ago. I am also excited to eat chocolates again and indulge on a warm brownie with vanilla ice cream on top. I am looking forward to a meal with rice and a pork dish called humba paired with dried fish dipped in vinegar.

Two more weeks, two more weeks. Or maybe less, maybe less.

Mayhem and madness will ensue.

Stay tune.
