Dad Speak: A Night Out

A night out.

Everyone needs one …

The children consistently scream, rain belts the outside of Casa Ruffolo Uno relentlessly and what do I have to cook for dinner to make everyone satisfied are but a few of the never-ending challenges to my everyday life.

Not a complaint mind you as I love my wife and my children.

I did mention that the children scream without mercy?

So – it is time for a road trip.

I’m writing this Dad Speak from our hotel room at the beautiful Montebello Villa Hotel in Banilad, Cebu as Cris and I are taking a much deserved 24 hour break from Casa Ruffolo Uno.

Everyone needs one – don’t you know that?

My father – blessed be his name – never took a break that I can ever remember. Once he and Mom took one cruise in the middle of their marriage. The only other time he ever took a break was when he wrapped work around personal time off.

Not this boy!

I am a big believer in vacationing away from my children.

Not that I don’t love them.

Of course I do.

But every once in a while, this man needs a break from the everyday mundane routine.

Will it be scrambled eggs or Swedish Pancakes I have to cook for breakfast?

Did I mention my children scream without mercy?

So, here Cris and I are in this beautiful four-star hotel, nestled in a crowded part of Cebu City. But… you won’t even know it. The grounds are gorgeous and I am looking forward to taking a long swim in the pool, followed by a quiet dinner with my beautiful wife.

I truly do love Cris. She is beautiful inside and out. I’ve seen her at her very best and far short of that. It is not my role to place any judgement on her. Hardly that – because I love her during all times.

Good and not.

So … running away to this resort was just in the cards and a welcome break from the day-to-day schedule.

There are many – far too many – others in Cebu who have to make due with a bowl of rice and a piece of dried fish every day to get through the day. Cris and the entire Ruffolo Family have been incredibly blessed by a loving Heavenly Father who watches over us every day.

Even so – the screaming of the children never seems to stop.

Which is why it is vitally important to never forget who you and your other half really are – people who need a break. Someone to cook our dinner for us. To have a welcome and quiet sleep with a full breakfast buffet waiting in the early morning.

Next to my love for my Heavenly Father – there is and always will be Cris Evert.

Which is why – here in this family – we will never stop taking time to be … us.

Husband and wife.

I am so looking forward someone else cooking my breakfast tomorrow morning – without a care in the world.
