Dad Speak: Zombies

I LOVE ZOMBIES.

Well… I just don’t love zombies, I crave anything written about zombies.

They are just so cool and when the zombie apocalypse finally does arrive, I’ll be the last one standing.  I’ve read every book on the subject and totally prepped and ready for anything that moans and groans.

Such is the power of the written word.

Take Max Brooks’ excellent World War Z (not the Brad Pitt movie) where the author painstakingly takes the reader through the initial start of the zombie plague, to the Battle of Yonkers in which the undead horde stretches hundreds of miles long; to the inevitable triumph of the human spirit and the will to live.

Woe be it to anyone who crosses my path during the apocalypse as they better be able to sing a tune or recite the Gettysburg Address.

Heaven or Hell help them if they can’t.

If I had the choice between reading World War Z or watching an episode of The Walking Dead, Brooks’ novel will always win out.

The power of the mind’s imagination is more powerful than latex and red colored dye that the zombie actors wear with relish.  The world of the zombie apocalypse comes alive in the printed word far stronger than anything Hollywood can ever dish out on the silver screen.

Brooks is the undisputed king of the zombie world and millions of faithful readers, this one included, wait patiently for a sequel to WWZ to re-enter this horrifically wondrous world that the author has created.

Bring ‘em on I say.

When the zombie horde attacks, I’ll still be the last man standing.

Sans moaning that is!
