Dad Speak: A Private Nook

Cris Evert’s Note: A couple of this blog’s followers asked me about “Dad Speak” because there was nothing from Jeff since January 25 when he wrote Inflight Magazines to the Rescue.  The Dad has been swamped by work related to airlines and sports but here goes his comeback article. It’s been raining almost seven days a week here in Guangzhou; hence, this weather-inspired entry. Thank you so much for reading!

A Private Nook
By Jeff Ruffolo

GUANGZHOU, CHINA – There is something very special about a rainy day when, completely by circumstance, you are forced to stay indoors, although a trip to the local mall and cineplex might be nice.

Nope. Nada.  Not a chance … because when you are stuck, glued and altogether locked into your four walls, it’s the best time for a chocolate chip cookie, a warm blanket and a soft chair to snuggle up to as you move silently, page by page, into an all-new world of wonder.

This is the best time to finally open up “that” book.

You know which one I mean.  The one that has been silently waiting for you to open its pages and allow the magic to begin.  You have been putting it off, time and again, and this time you are really going to do it.  You will finally crack open those time-weather pages.

Your book doesn’t mind.  It’s been waiting for you for ever so long and glad to have you as a friend so that the marvelous characters hidden away can finally come out to play for a while.

So, whatever your fancy, take advantage of the rainy spring weather and find that special nook in your house and make it your own.  Snuggle in for the long duration and make sure you have plenty of warm milk and cookies to whittle away the hours.

You will be so glad that you did.
