Basadours teams up with SM, Parkmall

Head off to these two malls on the dates mentioned. Interested to volunteer as storytellers or be part of the Basadours? Visit www.basadours.org or www.facebook.com/basadours.

The Basadours joins two malls – SM City Cebu and Parkmall – in celebrating National Children’s Book Day (NCBD) by holding back-to-back storytelling sessions this month.

On July 8 and 11, the Basadours will head off to Parkmall for storytelling sessions and games with grade school children. On July 15, about 100 invited children will gather at the SM Event Centre for another round of fun and stories with the Basadours, University of San Carlos librarian-storyteller Lorna Eguia, The Outstanding Students of the Philippine Alumni Community member Matthew Basabe, and Cebu’s heritage interpreter Balbino “Ka Bino” Guerrero as storytellers.

NCBD is celebrated every third week of July to commemorate the anniversary of the publication of Jose Rizal’s “The Monkey and the Turtle” in Trubner’s Oriental Record in London.

These partnerships is inline with the Basadours’ Project I Love to Read MORE (Moving Onward to Reading Empowerment) that aims to organize more storytelling sessions in Cebu and neighboring Visayan provinces to promote the love of reading.

Meanwhile, Story Time at the Library will be held on July 26 at the Cebu City Public Library (CCPL). Everyone is encouraged to donate children’s storybooks. The Basadours and CCPL will in turn donate these books to barangay reading centers.
