T30WC: Smile

The power of a two-second smile is perhaps one of the most underestimated weapon of worldwide pandemonium.

A smile is more than just a twitch of a muscle. It is more than just a gesture to show off one’s pearly whites or yellowish set of incisors. It’s function is not limited to portraits and pictorials.

A smile is a medium of communication and just like any other medium, it can also be the message.

People smile for a variety of reasons.

I smiled after giving birth because I can finally have white rice after four months of avoiding it because of my gestational diabetes.

Nicholas smiles every time we tell him it’s time to eat.

Antoinette flashes her million-dollar grin when I tell her how pretty she is.

JJ smiles after he passes gas. He also smiles in his sleep probably because an angel tickled his funny bone.

A few years ago, Jeff sent me a smile on a website indicating his interest to get to know me.

From that smile, this family happened.

A single smile is an enabler.

It propels people to take action. It encourages people to foray in the fields that they want to and move forward even when times are hard. It pushes people to be the best that they can be.

Today, the first Friday of October, is World Smile Day. It is the day set by a man named Harvey Ball, the artist who created the smiley face in 1963, as the special day to do an act of kindness and make another person smile. After all, the smiley face exists to share happiness to the world.
