Back from the salt mines

Hello everyone!

The last month has been tough with several professional engagements and stress brought about by graduate school. I was so close to giving up and letting my subjects go because I was slapped with so many obligations and could not find the time to work on my assignments and papers.

As usual, whiny me told Jeff about what I was feeling and he was, once again, my cheerleader. He did everything he can to lighten up my load including being my assistant researcher, my chef, my secretary and my all-around butler.

I finally submitted all requirements on the 8th of May, hugged Jeff for a job well done and tapped myself on the shoulder for surviving another semester.

I’ve feeling the Mommy guilt lately because it seemed like I haven’t been spending enough time with the mutants.

But when is time enough to spend time with your loved ones?

I turn to a discussion on quality over quantity in answering this question.

You can be home the whole day without spending time with your children. That happened to me all too often especially when I declare that I am working from home.

My daughter Antoinette, who’s really showing off her determined and passionate side these days, would poke me endlessly because she wants to talk but I would be busy writing an article an well, dismiss her.

That reaction would often send her crying as she repeatedly says, “Nanay, love me,” which means she wants a hug.

So I will drop everything that I am doing and hug her. Nicholas comes over to give me a kiss followed by Jeff Junior with his signature high-pitch voice saying “Hi Nanay!”

Every morning, at around 6:45 a.m., this is the routine.

Every morning, while my mind is busy thinking how in the world can I accomplish all my deliverables, I turn to my three children who never missed to give me a kiss or a hug and greet me a pleasant morning.

This morning moment keeps me going the entire day.

I look forward to sleep because I know the following day, at 6:45 in the morning, the mutants will be there at our doorstep knocking and looking for Nanay. The mutants will greet Nanay ‘good morning’ and give her a tight a hug or plant a kiss on her cheeks.

So I say, enough time is quality time.

In other news, I’m in Be Grand Resort in Bohol for a work assignment. Great service, great villa, great people so far! Definitely a reward after being stuck in the salt mines.
